HI I'm Marisa and at HNDMD this year I have been looking at sustainable living in our house, due to the growing concerns about our planet. I have been very worried about the toxins in plastic and how they could affect my family. I winced every time I wrapped a sandwich in cling film or a plastic sandwich bag. This led me to investigate alternatives and I now make beeswax food wraps in my home in Leigh-on-Sea. I have a range made from 100% cotton which hasn’t been bleached and is produced using less water and fertilisers. The wax is food grade beeswax and I feel so much happier wrapping our left overs and lunches in these! My business started when I began making hair bobbles and bows for my daughter and her friends. This quickly led to lots of school orders and I am now proud to say that most of the school accessories I make are made from old school uniforms. A tiny step towards decreasing landfill. I make for many local schools including West Leigh, Chalkwell and Earls Hall. I continue to have ideas for sustainable gifts and make etched glassware (mirrors and vases) with positive quotes on them for your loved ones. These are largely made to order with specific instructions from my customers. I have always wanted to create things that people want to buy so I am living a little dream in doing this!
